Aaron Rodgers' inner 'Star Wars' nerd comes out with Ewoks shoutout on 'Jeopardy!'

There wasn’t a “Star Wars” category on Wednesday’s episode of “Jeopardy!,” but viewers learned the host is partial to the film franchise’s primitive furry forest dwellers.

During his chat with contestants, guest host Aaron Rodgers asked Amy Rey, a market researcher from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, about her love of assembling elaborate Lego sets. She explained it started when her son was young and needed help putting together the Ewok village from “Return of the Jedi.”

“Oh, I love the Ewoks,” Rodgers quietly interjected, his inner “Star Wars” nerd detectable in the tone of his voice.

Ewoks apparently have something of a love-them-or-hate-them reputation among “Star Wars” fans, and Twitter was quick to take note.

Rodgers made the same declaration during an Instagram story on Tuesday in which he invited followers to ask him a question about “Jeopardy!” or anything else. Favorite “Star Wars” character? “Any of the Ewoks,” he replied.

Over Easter weekend, Rodgers and fiancée Shailene Woodley were spotted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida wearing matching “May The Force Be With You” face masks. Rodgers also had on a “Star Wars” T-shirt.

Rey, who live tweeted during the broadcast of Wednesday’s episode, wrote that even though she’s a New York Giants fan married to a Minnesota Vikings fan, she’s also a Rodgers fan. At one point during the show, “I was just in utter disbelief that I was standing on the Jeopardy stage and 15ft from freakin’ @aaronrodgers12,” she wrote.

Contestant Sebastián Martinez Valdivia, a public radio reporter from Columbia, Missouri, gave a shoutout to Rodgers while tweeting the episode. He said the Green Bay Packers quarterback “repeatedly checked with me to make sure he was pronouncing my name right. It may not seem that significant, but as I’ve talked about on here, growing up in Missouri I was always super self-conscious about my name.”

Although he lost to reigning champion Brandon Deutsch by just $2, he tweeted that he made “a lifelong friend” in Rodgers. (For the record, Rodgers is following him on Twitter.)

“Jeopardy!” shared a backstage video clip of how Rodgers prepared for the 10 shows, which were taped over two days in mid-February. During his Instagram story, he explained that he changed suits after each episode, so five different ensembles each day.

Rodgers’ Turd Ferguson reference on Tuesday’s show got him a “hahaha” tweet from Norm Macdonald, the comedian and actor who originated the punchline as Burt Reynolds during “Celebrity Jeopardy!” sketches on “Saturday Night Live.”

Scott Shewfelt, the contestant from Monday’s episode who wrote “Who wanted to kick that field goal?” for his Final Jeopardy! response — a reference to the Packers’ loss in the NFC championship game — talked about the viral moment in an interview with The Stratford Beacon Herald.

“I wouldn’t have written that if I wasn’t 100 percent sure Aaron Rodgers didn’t want to kick the field goal. I’ve seen a lot of people saying I trolled Aaron Rodgers and took a jab, but I only had it framed as a jab to (Packers head coach) Matt LaFleur,” Shewfelt said. “Looking back, I see what kind of position I put Aaron Rodgers in on national TV.”

Rodgers earned another $25,401 from Wednesday’s show for his charity, the North Valley Community Foundation in his hometown of Chico, California.
