He added: “What we are teaching people is just how not to get caught in terms of the language they use.” 

Following the airing of the bombshell Oprah interview in March, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying the royal family was “saddened” by the allegations, but added “some recollections may vary”.

John, who appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his new book spent six years at Watford followed by a decade at Liverpool, where he won two league titles and two FA Cups. 

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV between 6am and 9am.
