Wedding bells may not be far off for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
The famous couple is now aiming for a summer wedding, Shelton told “Today” show host Hoda Kotb on Wednesday. Shelton, 44, and Stefani, 51, announced their engagement last October and previously expressed they would hold off on making wedding date plans due to COVID-19.
“I’m afraid if she and I wait until next November, then I’m right back into ‘The Voice’ cycle again, and I really want to be able to have plenty of time before and after, so hopefully this summer,” he said. “I think we’re right here at the point with COVID, it looks like it may be OK, but don’t know, so that’s tentatively the plan.”
Kotb, who got engaged in November 2019 to Joel Schiffman, said she’s still weighing a summer or November wedding and wondered if Shelton would get married before she did.
“I’m gonna say we are,” Shelton said. “We’re getting married before you guys.”
The marriage of two big name musicians is drawing some other notable stars hoping to lend their voices to the festivities: Kotb noted that Miley Cyrus and Maroon 5 frontman and former fellow “Voice” coach Adam Levine have both volunteered to perform.
“It’s starting to sound like a Coachella lineup here all of a sudden,” Shelton said. “I got all these superstars saying they’re gonna do it. I hope so, I don’t know. I’m not saying this because it’s the line. We really don’t know.”
He added: “I’d love to be able to take everybody up on their offer and have this amazing concert wedding, but you know how it is. We’re just waiting every day just like everybody else to see what our summer’s gonna look like and then go from there.”
Shelton tweeted the news of their engagement on Oct. 27, 2020, writing: “Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!”
The two have been a couple for about five years, getting together shortly after Shelton divorced Miranda Lambert. This will be his third marriage. His first wife was Kaynette Williams.
Stefani was previously married to Gavin Rossdale. The two officially split in 2016. They have three children together.
Shelton and Stefani got to know each other while working on NBC’s “The Voice.” In a 2017 interview on NBC’s “Today,” Shelton acknowledged that many fans were perplexed when they became a couple.
“In people’s defense, I think it’s so hard for people to wrap their head around why Gwen would want to be with me,” he said. “I don’t blame ’em.”

During an “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” interview last December, Stefani said the plans for their nuptials were still up in the air due to COVID-19.
“I would say I just want my parents there at this point. My parents wouldn’t come to Thanksgiving because they’re so scared so really would rather it not be a COVID situation. Like, I would rather not have masks and that kind of thing,” she said.
She continued, “Even when you cut it down to just family, it’s still too many people for COVID so we’re sort of going to see what happens in the next few months.”
She also talked her feelings surrounding her fiancé status.
“It’s so funny to even say ‘engaged.’ It feels so weird,” she said. “People have been saying it for so long, like five years, ‘Are you getting married? Are you engaged?’ And now we actually are and it feels like I’m in a cartoon or something,”
