Clement Beaune appeared on French television and told the public Brexit was a “failure” during a blistering rampage against the UK Government. Mr Beaune discussed the ongoing fishing licence row with the UK as French authorities continue to lose their temper over being shut out of British waters. The French minister remarked on the Northern Ireland Protocol, shortages in supermarkets, and how the fishing industry was imploding in a relentless attack on the UK.
Speaking to BFM TV, Mr Beaune said: “Brexit is a failure, it’s clear.
“I believe Brexit is, unfortunately, a form of European de-socialisation.
“We speak less, we have less confidence in each other, that’s a shame.
“All the apostles of the sovereignty cause that tell us we must reduce Europe to small pieces, this is what it does.
“Fishermen who have fished for decades together, who understood each other very well, British and French fishermen they understand each other, they want to work together, we prevent them from working together – It’s absurd.
“And it’s not me who says this, it’s the British Court who says this.
“Brexit has an impact on the British economy more negative than Covid, it’s written black and white.
“We’ve seen the shortages taking place in Great Britain, the problems in Northern Ireland are better because they have access to the European market.”
