Brexit LIVE: Not good enough! Furious Frost to lay down law in crunch EU showdown TODAY

Lord Frost will meet European Commission vice-president Maros Sefcovic in Brussels in an attempt to bridge the gap on the latest Brexit proposals put forward by the EU. The bloc has outlined a plan to overhaul the controversial Northern Ireland Protocol and remove up to 80 percent of checks on goods.

However, Lord Frost is set to argue the measures do not go far enough to restore British sovereignty.

Instead, Lord Frost will remind the EU to take another look at a Command Paper published by the UK in July, which called on the role of the European Court of Justice to be removed.

The proposals also set out a plan for any further disputes to be managed through international arbitration.

Ahead of the showdown, Lord Frost said: “We do recognise that the EU has made an effort here.”

Speaking to Politico, he added: “Obviously theirs is not the only proposal on the table and our Command Paper and the legal text that we sent the Commission this week are where we need to end up and we need to begin that conversation.”

A UK Government spokesperson said: “Both we and the EU now have proposals on the table. We need to discuss them intensively in the days to come to see if the gaps can be bridged and a solution found which delivers the significant change needed.”
