Minister for International Trade, Ranil Jayawardena revealed the UK has secured trade deals with 70 countries worth £766 billion.
Mr Jayawardena said: “No other nation has secured so many trade deals with so many of its counterparts in such a short space of time. And this is just the beginning.”
He added the UK resolved a total of 217 trade barriers across 74 countries, a jump of 20 percent on last year, and also begun paving the way for accession to a mega trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The partnership had a combined GDP well in excess of £8trillion last year.
Mr Jayawardena also told the Telegraph: “All too often, the negative angle taken about our leaving the European Union can feel pessimistic, particularly for those of us who see it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to regain our nation’s sovereignty.”
