Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel explains 'creative' Reece James decision in draw

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has explained that he had to get ‘creative’ with his team selection ahead of the Blues’ 3-3 draw with Zenit in the Champions League. Tuchel’s side missed out on topping their group after a devastating last-minute equaliser.

The German has had to contend with a worsening absence crisis, with several players missing out with injuries and due to positive coronavirus tests.

Tuchel is without N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, meaning he had to use usual wing-back Reece James as a midfielder.

Tuchel said: “I expect N’Golo, Mateo, Jorgi and Ruben to start in midfield but they are all out so we had to get creative with Reecey.

“The target is to put him on the wing but we need players in midfield.”
