That benefitted James, who impressed when called upon over the international break.
But the England star struggled against West Brom on Sunday, giving the ball away in the build-up to Pereira’s second strike.
If he’s to make Southgate’s squad for the upcoming European Championships, he can’t afford many more days like this.
Because, if he does, he may find himself watching the competition on television instead.
