Countryfile host Adam Henson talks being left with a 'heavy heart' after holiday with wife

Countryfile star Adam Henson headed to the Isle of Islay in the Scottish Hebrides for a holiday with his partner Charlotte Henson earlier this year. The English farmer and TV presenter fell in love with the “unspoilt” beauty of the island, which is perfect for nature lovers like himself.

The 55-year-old and his spouse both packed a pair of binoculars for their trip and delightedly caught sight of a golden eagle.

While visiting a RSPB reserve, Adam also spotted hen harriers.

The father-of-two said he enjoyed a relaxing day at the beach during his short getaway, and went swimming in the sea.

They also hoped to catch sight of some otters, which Charlotte, who Adam calls Charlie, had never seen before.

He told Herald Scotland that he wished he could have stayed longer on the southernmost Inner Hebrides island, which is located off the west coast of Scotland.

When asked what he had left behind, following the trip, Adam replied: “A heavy heart.

“We have five days on Islay. I would love to stay longer.”

He went on to describe the island as an “unspoilt majestic hidden gem”.

The English farmer, who has a farm in the Cotswolds, went on to say that he had visited the Hebrides on a number of occasions over the years, but it was his first trip to Islay.

Adam joined the cast of Countryfile two decades ago.

Earlier this week, he marked the occasion on Twitter by sharing some pictures from his time on the BBC farming programme.

“Today marks 20 years since I joined the @BBCCountryfile team, so here’s some photos from the archive!” he wrote online, in view of his 61,200 followers.

One snap showed him arm-in-arm with some of his presenting colleagues, including Matt Baker and John Craven.

Others captured him filming outside in all types of weather conditions.

“Congratulations. I saw you at Inverness airport in the summer but didn’t like to bother you to say hi,” said Twitter user obankirst, who spotted the presenter on his holiday.

“Wow, 20 years and still going strong, congratulations!” added user agri_hub.

“I hope you are still enjoying your appearances on Countryfile Adam! Your slot on the programme is always something too look forward to, best wishes,”(sic) commented user southcentralwe1.
