Charles (played by Kevin Mathurin) is about to celebrate one year of living in Emmerdale and following the recent death of his partner, Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale), it will be a challenge. The vicar’s former lover, Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) is trying to fight to be back in his life as they have such a long history together and with her divorce from Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) in the process, she wants to think about her future. However, in the coming weeks on the ITV soap, they could both be forced to confront their past as the man of God reveals to his love interest he once slept with her sister, Meena (Paige Sandhu).
Viewers know the vicar has a complicated past, with several ghosts turning up in the village to generate intrigue about him.
It’s been explained Manpreet and Charles were engaged but she left him and his young son Ethan Anderson (Emile John) on their wedding day.
The young boy did not know his birth mother, Esme (Eva Fontaine) as she also left when he was still a toddler but she has also made an appearance in the village.
Esme featured in three episodes where she told her former lover, Charles, he had fathered a daughter before they went their separate ways.
However, it could be he and Meena have a past together as he could have turned to her following his original split from Manpreet.

Meena has been desperate to get her sister and Charles back together and has even used her powers of manipulation to get Ethan to build up a bond with the woman he saw as a mother figure.
It could be she is doing this because she did have an affair with the vicar after her sister ran away and learnt about how much he cared for her.
The serial killer might not have been mad with him as there were no feelings involved in their fling but given the opportunity to get them together again would have been too good to miss.
In the past, Meena has made a habit of sleeping with her sister’s lovers as she was the reason Manpreet left her first husband, Dennis.
As things had turned explosive at the end of their marriage, Meena could have decided she was no longer interested in Dennis.
“There’s a lot of chemistry, there’s an ease about them,” she continued.
“I hope I can speak for Kevin [Charles] on this because we worked together a lot on the scenes, and I think he’ll agree that what we tried to convey is real ease of being together, and being in each other’s company.
“So while we’re reminiscing, we’ll sort of finish each other sentences, as old lovers do. I think if it was just that and no other complications, it would be a no brainer for them.
“But of course, Manpreet has this rather manipulative sister, whose end game is all about herself, and self-inflation, and who likes to control her sister’s life.
“So you can never bargain for happiness when Meena’s around,” she added, hinting things could get difficult with Meena constantly interfering.
However, as Manpreet begins to dig a little deeper into why her sister is so interested in her relationship, will she discover she has a past with Charles?
Unable to lie, the vicar could admit he and Meena slept together years ago when Manpreet first walked out on him.
The GP would be shocked to the core regarding this information and will want nothing more to do with her love interest or her sister.
Not one to let matters drop, the serial killer could remain persistent and tell her sister she needs to get a grip as the affair happened years ago.
But will Manpreet be willing to accept her sister got another one of the men she loved under her claws or will she make it clear Meena is no sister of hers?
Discussing Charles and Manpreet’s connection a little further, Rebecca added: “I think there’s real affection between them, they’ve got a history.
“And I think Charles really appreciates Manpreet’s genuine affection and concern for his son. He’s a family man, he loves his son.
“I think anyone who shows an interest in Ethan is going to be okay with him. Manpreet offers some words of comfort and support to Ethan in relation to possibly meeting up with his mother and rekindling a relationship.
“That’s what inspires Charles to invite Manpreet on a walk. And they reminisce, they get a bit closer; there are some really lovely moments coming up.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
