The video, understood to have been filmed on Sunday evening in Barry, south Wales, initially shows the man being escorted outside by two police officers. As the suspect refuses to put his hands behind his back, one officer twice attempts to kick his legs from underneath him.

The suspect, who is a father, eventually falls to the ground and is overheard saying: “All this because I called you a ‘d***head? You are a d***head.”

An officer then uses PAVA irritant spray on the suspect’s face, Wales Online reports.

The clip, which has been viewed 15,000 times on Facebook, shows a crowd gathering as the man and the officer, now both standing, continue to tussle. The officer then appears to throw a punch, hitting the man in the face.

The same officer then draws his Taser while a woman’s voice can be heard saying, “Dad, please stay still – enough now.”

The man is eventually placed in the back of a police van.

But the suspect’s family are disgusted with the police’s alleged behaviour, purported to have happened in front of the man’s children.

The daughter of the man, who did not wish to be named, said that the police officers had originally turned up at the pub looking for someone else.

However, her father was arrested on suspicion of drunk and disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police officer.

“My dad said hello to them and they ignored him, so he called them out on their ignorance,” the daughter, from Barry, said.

“Next thing he knew they’d grabbed him and taken him outside. My six-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister were also there and are traumatised by what they saw. So am I.

“I shot the video and watching it back makes me feel sick to my stomach and very fearful of the fact the police can act in such way.

“Our family is definitely going to be taking this further. We, along with other members of public who witnessed the incident, are disgusted with the way it was handled.”

Police say they are aware of the footage and it is being looked at by the force’s Professional Standards Department.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “While at the premises a man became abusive and aggressive and, as a result, PAVA – an incapacitant spray – was discharged.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer by spitting.

“He has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

“We are aware of footage being circulated on social media and the matter is being considered by the force’s Professional Standards Department.

“Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting *322126 – or click here.
