Four Tottenham players who showed they deserve to start vs Aston Villa after Mura victory

Tottenham got back to winning ways on Thursday with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Slovenian minnows Mura in the European Conference League. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo had been coming under pressure following his side’s dismal 3-1 defeat to North London rivals Arsenal at the weekend.

But Spurs got a much-needed confidence boost tonight, albeit against far inferior opposition.

Nuno will now have plenty to ponder ahead of another big game against Aston Villa this weekend.

Here, Express Sport look at four men who may have played themselves into his thinking.

Cristian Romero

He didn’t exactly have a huge amount to do, but Argentinean centre-back Romero was solid at the back when called upon tonight.

Given Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier’s struggles against Arsenal, Romero has surely earned the opportunity to start against Villa on Sunday.

And it would be no surprise at all to see the 23-year-old given the nod.

Oliver Skipp

Skipp has been one of the only Spurs players to shine so far in this campaign.

Yet somewhat surprisingly he was dropped to the bench against Arsenal, only coming on at half-time, after which his side improved.

He will surely be back in the XI against Villa.

Giovani Lo Celso

It has been a frustrating season so far for Argentinean midfielder Lo Celso.

The silky attacking midfielder has only featured sporadically, and was one of the three players forced to quarantine in Croatia after his country’s last round of internationals.

He started from the off tonight, however, and scored a beautiful goal early on and contributed with a number of penetrating passes.

Lo Celso could provide the creativity against Villa that Spurs have so lacked of late.

Bryan Gil

Spurs fans have been crying out for Gil to get more playing time for the majority of the season, with the young Spanish winger impressing every time he has been called upon.

He is another who was forced to accept a place on the bench against Arsenal but came on and looked bright.

And he was impressive again versus Mura, causing them no end of problems down the left hand side.

He would be a popular inclusion to the XI on Sunday.
