Rose Ayling-Ellis left the Strictly Come Dancing judges and BBC viewers an emotional mess on Saturday evening as she and Giovanni Pernice performed a Couple’s Choice with a difference. Keen to raise awareness and pay homage to the deaf community, Giovanni and Rose’s routine to Clean Bandit’s Symphony was altered to have the music cut off midway through with the pair continuing to dance in silence. The powerful moment left barely a dry eye in the studio and it clearly meant a lot to Giovanni who whispered a sweet message to his partner.
With the entirety of the Strictly studio on their feet to applaud Rose and Giovanni after their routine, the pair hugged on the dance floor.
As they separated, Giovanni looked Rose in the eyes and said: “I love you,” clearly touched by their experience on the show together.
The pair kept their composure as they headed to the judges for their feedback but when joining Claudia Winkleman soon after, Rose had a heartfelt message of her own.
“Rose, congratulations, number one. I know you want to say something to Giovanni,” Claudia said.

The EastEnders star then gushed: “Yeah. I feel very, very thankful for your determination to make this dance the most positive, happy dance it can be.
“Because you know that being deaf, there’s nothing wrong (with it), it’s such a joy to be deaf.
“And I think that says a lot about you as a person.”
The emotions finally caught up with Giovanni in the moment as he struggled to fight back tears, telling his dance partner: “What are you doing to me?!”
After their routine, Motsi Mabuse told them: “Actually I wrote a few things and I was like, ‘This was better, this was better’, but in this case, I honestly feel like saying thank you, because I honestly feel like this was such a beautiful moment to include us in your world,
“And for us to actually understand how important and how aware we all could be of each other generally everywhere.
“This was so special, sometimes it’s more than just scores and dancing, it was just the moment and we just had that. Thank you so much for that.”
Shirley echoed as she took to her feet: “Well I feel first of all I should stand up out of respect for you sharing particularly the silent moment which totally I was not expecting it.
“It takes you into a much deeper place, I’m sure the deaf community will be absolutely so proud of you. And for sharing your heart and for being so honest and for being so true and for people to see such a beautiful lady like you can be so successful.
“This is a number that will be etched in my heart for a long, long time. It was absolutely beautiful.”
And an emotional Anton struggled not to cry as he said: “You know, you get moments like this and I’ve been doing the show since the beginning,
“Same as Craig and same as you Tess, and we’ve had the great pleasure and the great honour of being on Strictly Come Dancing for a long time – I’m getting a bit emotional. And that’s the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on the show. Congratulations.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues with the result show tonight at 7:20pm on BBC One.
