GMB fans blast ITV show for 'scaremongering' over Christmas lockdown speculation

Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid hosted Monday’s Good Morning Britain, the first show to air since the weekend’s shock announcement of the threat of yet another Covid variant. As Britain gears itself up for more news, many are feeling a sense of deja vu after 2020’s last-minute “cancellation” of Christmas due to the spread of new variants of the virus. As they chatted with Ranvir Singh, the trio talked about the possibility of another festive lockdown. Viewers criticised the coverage, with some accusing the broadcaster of “scaremongering”.

Speaking to Ranvir from the Good Morning Britain studio, Ben commented: “We’re wondering what this means for Christmas.

“The idea is, I guess, put these restrictions in now and hopefully Christmas will be normal?”

“Absolutely Ben,” the presenter replied. “And nobody wants a repeat of last year.

“Sajid Javid, the health secretary said Christmas plans should continue as normal but he did say that this third booster jab should be open to all those who are over the age of 18 and all hopes are being pinned on this now.”
