Great British Bake Off: The incredible filming locations you can visit in the UK – 'wow'

Bake Off will be back on Britons’ screens at 8pm on Tuesday September 21. The popular series will return to Channel 4 and Britons have barely contained their excitement on social media, with one saying: “Trying to jump into the future so it’s September 21 already.”

The series has had a number of filming locations over the years.

Series One was filmed at various locations around the country that were loosely based on the weekly theme.

This format saw contestants go to the Cotswolds, Scone Palace in Perthshire, Sarre Windmill in Kent, Bakewell in Derbyshire, Mousehole in Cornwall and Fulham Palace in London.

Series Two was filmed at Valentines Mansion in Redbridge.

The grade II* listed country house is 320 years old and has picturesque historic gardens and an award-winning park.

Britons who want to reminisce about the second series of Bake Off can visit Valentines Mansion.

The Mansion is open to the public and hosts many art exhibitions.

The gardens can be visited all year round too, with highlights including the Rose Garden and of course the Kitchen Garden.

Series Three and Four were filmed at Harptree Court in Somerset.

The 18th century house is private, but all is not lost for Bake Off fans who want to visit.

DON’T MISS

On the grounds of the historical house, Britons can stay in a double-circle tree house with a giant copper tub.

With easy access to Bristol and Bath, the estate is a great place for a Somerset staycation.

Since 2014, the series has been filmed at Welford Park in Newbury in Berkshire.

The Bake Off tent was pitched on the grounds of the private house, built in the 17th century.

While the estate is private, it is possible to visit the grounds during snowdrops season.

Every year for the past 50 years, the estate opens up to the public and it’s proved to be a popular attraction.

One reviewer said: “Went to see the snowdrops with friends – very well worth the effort.

“Huge carpets of snowdrops in the woods and around the river banks. Lots of different paths to follow – well maintained and not slippery despite the recent wet weather.

“The house is handsome and the car parking arrangements were very efficient with a traffic light system for pedestrians to avoid cars. Finished off the morning with lunch at the local pub – the Five Bells – which was very good.”

Another said: “Wow wasn’t disappointed.”

The estate also hosts events and weddings.

With the pandemic, the location of the Great British Bake Off was changed.

In 2020, the series was filmed at Down Hall Hotel in Bishop’s Stortford, on the Hertfordshire and Essex border, and this is also where the series will take place this year.

The mansion dates back to 1322 and is now a four-star hotel.

The popular wedding venue was the setting of late reality TV star Jade Goody’s wedding in 2009.

It’s of course possible to stay at Down Hall Hotel, Spa and Estate.

The hotel has 98 bedrooms to choose from and 110 acres of woodland, parkland and landscaped gardens to explore.
