Greta Thunberg slams Jacinda Ardern for 'not doing anything' about climate change

In an interview with the Guardian last Saturday, the young Swedish climate activist gave no quarter to politicians as she called out world premier’s over their inaction on climate change. The 18-year-old, who is now living on her own in Sweden, is still rallying millions of people around the world through the internet.

Ms Thunberg and her activist friends are supposed to show up for the COP26 scheduled between 31 October and 12 November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, she said she’s not optimistic at all regarding the conclusions of the said summit.

“Nothing has changed from previous years really,” she said.

“The leaders will say we’ll do this and we’ll do this, and we will put our forces together and achieve this, and then they will do nothing.”

“Maybe some symbolic things and creative accounting and things that don’t really have a big impact.”

“We can have as many COPs as we want, but nothing real will come out of it.”

Asked about any world leader who, in her opinion, might be doing something good, she said she can’t think of a single politician who has impressed her.

Hence why Guardian journalist Simon Hattenstone asked her about New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern, who said that the climate crisis was a matter of “life or death.”

Greta also slammed Boris Johnson, whose decision to support new coal mines and oil fields in the UK while hosting the COP26 is illogical.

“It’s hypocritical to talk about saving the climate as long as you’re still expanding fossil fuel infrastructure.”

Back in 2019 when speaking at the UN, Ms Thunberg had already expressed her frustration regarding the inaction of world politicians.

“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be standing here”, she said.

“I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean.”

“Yet you all come to us young people for hope.”

“How dare you?”

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”
