The Government has come under fire again after leaked footage seemingly confirmed allegations that Tory MPs enjoyed a Christmas party in Number 10 last year whilst for the rest of Britons Christmas was cancelled. Prime Minister Boris Johnson failed three times to answer questions about the Tory Christmas bash last week and has been facing increasing pressure to confirm such an event took place. Alastair Campbell insisted Sir Keir Starmer must “go for the jugular” and hold Mr Johnson to account as he was questioned about Labour’s failure to hit back at Conservative U-turns in months.
Speaking about the secret Tory Christmas party, host Jeremy Vine asked: “If it’s all true why isn’t Labour under Keir Starmer punching through?”
Mr Campbell said: “Well look Keir’s got a huge opportunity today to show at Prime Minister’s questions that he can properly land a glove on this guy.
“And actually I think the Labour Party has been much better in recent weeks.
“I have been critical of the Labour party in terms of not being aggressive enough, not calling out Johnson for his lies, not being hard enough on the covid corruption and so forth.”

Mr Campbell added: “I think they have got tougher but the two things, one thing I say to Keir is that this isn’t just about Government, this is also about our media.
“Now today, yes most of the media are rightly giving this huge play but several of our newspapers, the major newspapers the Sun and the Telegraph, for example, I think the Times as well, not the lead story not even on front pages.
“This Government gets away with an awful lot more than most governments because it’s totally locked in with the right-wing media and that does make it a lot harder for Labour.”
“But Labour today has to go for the jugular on this, this is about Johnson’s character and the damage it’s doing to the country.”

When the news broke of the Christmas Party Sir Keir Starmer has called for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to “come clean and apologise.”
Mr Starmer said: “People across the country followed the rules even when that meant being separated from their families, locked down and – tragically for many – unable to say goodbye to their loved ones.
“They had a right to expect that the Government was doing the same. To lie and to laugh about those lies is shameful.”
Labour MP David Lammy took to Twitter to share his grievances, Mr Lammy said: “While people lost their lives, No10 partied. While people stuck to the rules, No10 broke them. While the nation suffered, they joked.”
“This is absolutely sickening they are laughing at us all. It’s one rule for them and another for the rest of us.”
An NHS nurse who has worked throughout the pandemic commented on the news of the secret Christmas party, the NHS staffer said:
“To say I’m angry, I’m incandescent. It’s the disrespect, it’s the one rule for us and another rule for them, that’s what’s the worst.”
Speaking of the leaked ITV clip the NHS staffer said: “I see Allegra Stratton laughing up there and I feel sick, I feel disrespected, (like) I’ve been taken for a mug.”
“I can’t put enough words together right now as to how appalling that behaviour is. It should have consequences.”
Mr Johnson announced during PMQs an investigation on the party claims has been launched.
