The Grand National, one of the nations most anticipated racing festivals, launched in the UK yesterday. The occasion was overshadowed by the start of a national mourning, however, as the the Royal Family announced Prince Philip had died aged 99. Festival organisers and attendees took time to recognise the Duke of Edinburgh’s life as television schedules changed for the day.
Is the Grand National on today?
British television channels, especially the BBC, have paused regular scheduled programming in the wake of Prince Philip’s death.
The Grand National is a unique event which comes once a year, with coverage planned well in advance.
They have scheduled programming to continue while also honouring the late Duke.
