The Good Morning Britain host was joined by Ranvir Singh on Tuesday morning for the debate. Amid Boris Johnson’s divisive comments on recycling being a “red herring”, Richard Madeley proposed a boycott of all Chinese products and was criticised by several ITV viewers on Twitter throughout the programme.
Audiences took to social media to slam Madeley’s ambitious strategy to tackle climate change.
He claimed an individual boycott of products made in China, one of the world’s biggest polluters, could be the best way to solve the crisis.
The presenter also criticised the online service Amazon for failing to include the country of origin on many of its products.
Twitter user Charlotte Lewis said: “I would love to boycott China but it’s impossible – practically everything is made there – even dog poop bags!”
