Joe Biden faces backlash as US President caught flouting DC's face mask mandate

US President Joe Biden was caught flouting a DC face mask mandate with his wife Jill Biden by walking through a high-end Georgetown restaurant without masks on Saturday. Critics soon dubbed the first couple as “hypocrites”. The US President has been urging Americans for months to follow Covid guidelines to help curb the number of new infections.

The President and First Lady were filmed walking maskless through a high-scale Italian restaurant.

According to videos shared on social media, the Bidens were seen leaving Fiola Mare in Georgetown with their masked-up Secret Service agents.

The President was carrying a mask in both hands as he left the restaurant.

His wife did not seem to be carrying her mask as she left the seafood establishment.

Wearing masks indoors is mandatory in DC

The couple were filmed after Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser reinstated an indoor mask mandate back in July when the delta variant started to surge.

The first couple also ignored the restaurant’s own mask-wearing policy.

The restaurant’s website says: “Per CDC guidance and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s executive order, all individuals over age 2 are required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

“Masks must be always worn while in our restaurants, except while eating and drinking. Thank you for understanding.”

Social media users have branded Biden a “hypocrite” since he has been pushing for Americans to wear masks.

Podcast host Benny Johnson said: “Every American deserves an answer from @JoeBiden directly explaining why he thinks is allowed to break rules that he demands others to follow.”

Author Clay Travis wrote: “Hypocrites gonna hypocrite, y’all.”

Joey Gilbert,  also wrote: “Joe Biden was spotted walking around a restaurant without a mask last night.

“Just another reminder that rules implemented by the ruling class only apply to us, not them.”

Fox Nation host David Webb said: “Everyone should save this video on their phone. Use when asked to put on a mask.”

Despite the criticism, other Twitter users rose to defend the US President.

Chris Paredes said: “Well he’s vaccinated, he’s literally HOLDING his mask in his hand as he’s heading to be seated, and keeping 6 ft apart… Shirley, you can’t be serious!”

User Sky Diamond commented: “Really??? He just ate and his mask was in his hands….y’all are too much!”
