Liverpool can cast eye over two transfer targets in Champions League clash

Liverpool will have had a huge eye on their tie against FC Porto on Tuesday night, but it is likely not all of their Champions League focus will be fixed solely on themselves.

The Reds have been after a midfielder ever since Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain in June, but by only signing defender Ibrahima Konate in the summer they are evidently short in midfield.

It was hoped Harvey Elliott would come in and be his long-term replacement, but a freak injury against Leeds earlier this month put an end to his role in the first team until the new year.

Elliott did impress, but as a more natural-born attacker it is thought that he will be the successor to the Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane duo that continue to tear up the wings at Anfield.

And that is the reason why Klopp continues to a hunt for an out-and-out central midfield player.

Jude Bellingham is the latest link of recent, with the Englishman reportedly likely to command a fee of £80million if he was to join from Borussia Dortmund.

His career, much like Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Dominik Szoboszlai and Naby Keita before him, has shot to prominence in Austria at a young age, and he is the next on a long list of talents to succeed there.

Having already made his Germany debut – marking it with a goal – earlier this month, Adeyemi is a huge commodity at Salzburg and it will likely take a huge price to secure his signature.

But the draw of Liverpool, where Keita, Mane and Takumi Minamino have all excelled before him, could be too much for Salzburg to turn down.

Having been released by Bayern as a kid, however, Adeyemi has gone on record to admit they are his first choice.

“If Bayern made me an offer, I think I would choose that path,” he told Marca.

“I want to show them what I can do, who I am and that it was a mistake to let me go. That motivates me.”

And so if Liverpool do want to sign the striker, they may have to be quick.
