Greater Manchester Police have closed all lanes of the motorway, which is off-limits to traffic in both directions.
Emergency services are on the scene, and the M602 remains closed through Salford, Manchester.
A bus company has reported a pedestrian ‘walking along the carriageway’, according to the Manchester Evening News.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called to the M602 near junction three at about 10.20am on 10 October 2021 after reports of a man walking on the motorway and the hard shoulder.
“This incident is ongoing.”
The M602 is closed between junctions two and three, Regent Road roundabout and Gilda Brook roundabout through Weaste.
