Man City facing triple injury blow ahead of crunch Chelsea, PSG and Liverpool clashes

Pep Guardiola is down to bare bones in defence ahead of arguably the biggest week in Manchester City’s season. The Premier League champions travel to Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime before heading to Paris to take on PSG in Champions League in midweek. Liverpool then await City at Anfield on Sunday, October 3.

Guardiola’s men are already under pressure to deliver after they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton last weekend.

The result means they are already three points adrift of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, who will be looking to secure some additional breathing space with wins at Stamford Bridge and Anfield respectively.

City are already up against it too, with Guardiola now facing several injury concerns ahead of the key meetings.

According to The Telegraph, centre-back duo Aymeric Laporte and John Stones are both doubts for the match.

Nathan Ake is expected to keep his place alongside Ruben Dias at the heart of defence having recently scored in City’s 6-3 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan also missed the 6-1 Carabao Cup thrashing of Wycombe on Tuesday night.

“Rodri had some muscular problems – not big, but I don’t know how many days. The doctor could not tell me,” Guardiola said before the game.

Both midfielders could return against Chelsea and their condition will be monitored in the coming days.

Guardiola used the clash against Wycombe to rest a number of his defenders and speaking after the game, the agitated Spaniard questioned why English clubs are not able to use five substitutes this season again, like the rest of Europe.

“All around the world we have five subs, we have three. This is ridiculous,” he said.

“This is why there are injuries. Every three days, game, without no preparation, no pre-season. Maybe one day, the big bosses will explain why?”
