Man City star Ruben Dias has message for Liverpool as Citizens ready to put PSG loss aside

Ruben Dias says Manchester City will use their Paris disappointment to fire them up for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Talk of frying pans and fires seems appropriate for Pep Guardiola’s men after a Champions League trip to face Lionel Messi and co. dropped in between away games at Chelsea and Liverpool.

But despite a 2-0 defeat in the French capital halting momentum gained at Stamford Bridge, Dias says they will not be blown off course.

“It affects nothing. Essentially we know what we are capable of, we know our identity and we know what we need to do at Anfield to win,” he said.

“It is a loss and we are frustrated but that is the good habit of being a top team. Obviously we will take it but in no time will be there again.”

City flew back from Paris on Wednesday after a light recovery session and now have three days to prepare for a fixture they won for the first time in 17 years last season.

And while the schedule could have been kinder there will be no excuses from City.

“If you want to be at the top, if you want to be number one, you need to play against some of the best,” said Dias.

“We are disappointed because we demand everything we can from ourselves, individually and collectively.

“If we don’t take a win we will never be satisfied.

“But now the major focus is on Sunday’s game at Anfield and that is where all our energy will be.”

City were rocked by the magic of Messi on Tuesday with Dias hailing the Paris Saint-Germain front three of him, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as the best front line in world football.

But while holding his hands up for two goals conceded it is at the other end of the pitch that Dias believes City need to sharpen up.

City created plenty of chances but failed to convert any.
