Melissa McCarthy recently gave an interview to promote her new film ‘The Starling’, where she opened up about her friendship with Meghan Markle. The Hollywood actress had appeared in the launch video for Meghan’s 40×40 initiative in August, which was aimed at helping women re-enter the workforce after the Covid-19 pandemic. During the 2-minute comedy skit, the Duchess and McCarthy joked about getting matching tattoos and hosting a yacht party to celebrate Meghan’s 40th birthday.
Meghan Markle celebrated her 40th birthday on August 4, and marked the occasion by launching her latest project.
As part of the video, Melissa McCarthy asked the Duchess, “Are we finally getting matching tattoos?” to which Meghan teasingly replied, “I mean, I already have something really similar across my back”.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, Melissa McCarthy joked: “I’m still going full steam ahead, I told her that I had done half the tattoo.
“Unfortunately, some of her face was on a fold, I’m not gonna say where, but I’m trying to have it corrected and I’m just waiting for my invitation for the yacht.”
Before introducing her 40×40 initiative, Melissa McCarthy suggests various ways for Meghan to celebrate her 40th birthday.

These included a yacht party and a Suits reunion, with the Bridesmaids star sipping tea and wearing a hat and gloves whilst speaking to Meghan via Zoom.
Prince Harry also appears in the background of the video, shown juggling through a window.
Melissa McCarthy gave another interview to Access Hollywood shortly after the video was released through the couple’s Archewell website, saying: “She’s doing such an amazing thing to celebrate her 40th. I just love that she’s like ‘Oh, what can I do to put some good [into the world] and help some people out.'”
She also gave behind-the-scenes details about Prince Harry’s cameo, revealing: “In comes Harry and he’s like ‘I can juggle!’ He was like, ‘Is it going to be weird if I stand outside and juggle?’ and I was like, ‘Weird in a way that will make me watch it five million times.’
In a statement released on their Archewell website, the Duchess of Sussex said that women had been “shouldering the brunt” of the pandemic, by taking on the additional unpaid labour of childcare and homeschooling.
She noted that in the US alone, over 2 million women had left their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a bid to help women re-enter the workplace, she had asked “40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort” by offering 40 minutes of mentoring to an unemployed woman.
Influential figures who agreed to participate included Hillary Clinton, Amanda Gorman, Stella McCartney and Adele.
