The policewoman was killed in Rambouillet, near Paris, local media has reported. She was attacked in the entrance to the town’s police station and later died of her injuries. The attacker’s motives were not immediately clear but anti-terrorism police had been called to the incident.
French Prime Minister Jean Castex and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said they were heading to the scene.
The Versailles prosecutor was investigating, officials said.
