One person said: “Then we get France in the quarters, it’s best to take on Germany (probably) in the L16 and then we have an easier run to the finals.
“Imagine wanting your team to get gubbed, what a strange character you are,” another tweeted.
A third added: “Absolutely rubbish statement. You can’t play about with trying for ‘easier’ routes. In the last tournament we got knocked out by Iceland.”
Another cited England’s potential loss of home advantage, stating: “But we won’t be on the easier side of the draw.
“Also, we won’t get to play the rest of our games at Wembley. The seemingly easy path is not always the best path.”
