Before her death in August 1997, Princess Diana penned her last will and testament which outlined that a special item should be given to her sons in the event of her death. According to reports, Princess Diana wanted the majority of her state to be placed in a trust which she wanted her sons to have when they were 25.

However, Diana’s sister and mum who were co-executors and trustees were given permission to alter some parts of the will after she died.

After an alteration, the will instead stated the princes would receive their share when they both reached 30 instead of 25, against the wishes of their late mother.

According to her will, Diana requested all her possessions, including her iconic “fairytale” wedding dress, be gifted to her sons.

Her wedding dress was given to the princes after a global tour in 2014, which was the year Prince Harry reached the age of 30.

The dress was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and is made up of thousands of pearls and layers of silk.

Mr Emanuel said in 2014: “That gown has earned its keep. It has been around the globe many, many times. I think more people abroad have seen it than British people.

“What’s extraordinary is, after so many years, people are still talking about it.”

Princess Diana’s wedding dress is currently at Kensington Palace for members of the public to see.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

People reacted positively on Twitter to Princess Diana’s statue.

One Twitter user wrote: “I loved her, she was a complete breath of fresh air and loveliness in the Royal Family …the first royal I ever saw cuddling and hugging children.”

Another wrote: “Love her and this touching memorial to her.”
