The event, that was planned to take place in Florida, was moved to Zoom in light of coronavirus concerns.  Prince Harry dialled in from his home in Montecito, paying tribute to the athletes involved in the games. He stated: “I will never forget that first visit I had to the Warrior Games, which inspired me to create the Invictus Games.”

Harry’s first visit to the Warrior games was in 2013, in Colorado. One year later, he held his first Invictus Games in London.

He also added that: “The Invictus Games never would have been created, had I not been inspired by every single one of you and your companions and the families for everything that you give to the service of this country.”

The Duke claimed that the event “wasn’t about the medals,” insisting that the athletes had “already won.”

The First Lady and the Duke first met during his US tour in 2013, where he attended a reception for wounded servicemen.

Speaking on the Royally Obsessed podcast, royal experts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discussed the event.

They said that: “Prince Harry had a zoom for the Warrior Games that were cancelled this year with Dr Jill Biden, they were supposed to be held in Florida this week, but the pandemic continues to rage on, so it was moved to be a virtual event.

“I feel like it’s a little snoozy though, like I saw the video and I was like ‘eh’.

“I think it’s one of those things that we’re getting to see the video clip, but it’s really meant for the attendees, but I did really like that it gave us context about the significance of Invictus for Harry.”

The Duke of Sussex announced that the fifth Games will be hosted in The Hague, The Netherlands.

After set-backs from the pandemic, they will now be held in Spring 2022, date to be confirmed.
