Beatrice gave birth to Sienna, a girl weighing 6lb 2oz, at 11.42pm on Saturday, September 18 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement.

She wrote on Twitter: “So delighted to share the news of the safe arrival of our daughter.”

Her mother Sarah, Duchess of York, was described by a family friend as being “absolutely over the moon”.

Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, posted her congratulations on Instagram to “dearest Beabea and Edo” for their “angel”.

Members of the Royal Family are expected to approach the Queen for advice on a baby name out of respect.

According The Sun, when Beatrice was born in 1988, the Queen did not approve of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s first choice for her baby name.

The couple are said to have preferred the name Annabel for their baby, but the Queen did not approve.

The couple’s second name choice, Victoria, is claimed to have been rejected by the Queen.

However, it is believed Her Majesty recommended the name Beatrice, which is related to Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s also named their daughter after the monarch, but opted for a personal nickname.

The Sussex’s daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, is named after the Queen’s personal nickname, used by Prince Philip and King George V.

A Palace source told the BBC Her Majesty was not told by Meghan and Harry about naming their daughter after her.

The Sussex’s spokesperson said however: “The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.

“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
