TalkRadio presenter James Whale hit out at British Airways over the company’s decision to ban the use of the phrase “ladies and gentlemen” in on-board announcements. Mr Whale ridiculed the move suggesting it could backfire as a “go woke, go broke” strategy. The slamming came after the UK flag carrier had told staff to modify their language in recent weeks to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

Speaking on TalkRadio, James Wales went on a rant: “Let’s talk briefly before we carry on about this ridiculous idea of British Airways, so don’t fly with them anymore.

“I’m actually going to stop that their cabin crew saying ‘good morning, good evening, good afternoon ladies and gentlemen’, no’.

“‘Hello passengers’. It’s like saying, Hi campers!’.”

Mr Whales asked: “Who was the p****ck at BA who came up with this idea?

“I mean, how many people are there of a persuasion that might be offended? They are a minority of people, probably none.

“The people who are offended are those who like to be offended and then complain about me at your own peril

“Because I will have the ability to publicise you.”

Mr Gould answered: “I never heard anyone complain about ladies and gentlemen.

“I can’t believe that.

Mr Whales continued: “No who at the British Airways came up with that idea? ]

“But it’ll be somebody in one of those ridiculous, I better be careful, I’ll be called in there but I won’t go…HR departments?

“I don’t know, I’ve never been.”

British Airways is the latest airline to adopt gender-neutral language in order to celebrate diversity among its customers.

A spokesman for BA said in response to the claims: “We celebrate diversity and inclusion and we’re committed to ensuring that all our customers feel welcome when travelling with us.”

They also said the airline was “committed to using inclusive language that makes all our customers feel welcome ” and had been “using inclusive language at the airport for over a year”.

Cabin crew and pilots have been advised to use inclusive language when speaking to customers.
