He captioned it: “I was in Barcelona with my team and medical team, to receive a foot treatment that will have me a few days off and a few weeks off track.

“Already back home and in the process of recovery. Thank you all for the support!”

While the former world No 1 has remained hopeful for his chances of making a successful comeback next year, he recently admitted that the process has become more difficult with age, leaving many to wonder whether he will be forced to retire if his body denies him the chance to play tennis.

“The clock is ticking, every year it’s getting tougher,” Nadal said, speaking at an event screening a review of a new Prime Video documentary on his Rafa Nadal Academy in his home country of Mallorca.
