Ronan Keating said Boyzone slept with Stephen Gately’s coffin as mum feared he'd be alone


Boyzone star Stephen Gately died 12 years ago today at the age of 33. His bandmates have shared how they never left his side after his death before he was buried in an unearthed interview.

Stephen died from an undiagnosed heart condition 12 years ago today.

The beloved singer was found on his sofa by a friend back in October 2009.

After his death, Stephen’s Boyzone bandmates flew to Spain to bring back his body to the UK.

Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham shared how they were left “devastated” by what happened.

At the time of Stephen’s death, his Boyzone bandmates issued an emotional statement.

This read: “We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen.

“We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit.

“He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world.

“Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen’s family.

“We love you and will miss you forever, ‘Steo’.”

Ronan also paid tribute to him last year, 11 years after his death.
