Salisbury Novichok poisonings: Third spy named as ‘highly trained’ officer Denis Sergeev

Police believe that the three suspects are in Russia, and with no extradition treaty with the country, there is little chance of them being brought to the UK. Denis Sergeev, who used the alias Sergey Fedotov while in the UK, faces charges including the attempted murder of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal. He also faces charges of attempted murder of his daughter Yulia and ex-police officer Nick Bailey.

Mr Sergeev is charged with conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, possession and use of a chemical weapon.

The Skripals ended up fighting for their lives in March 2018.

This was after claims that members of Russian intelligence had smeared the deadly chemical weapon on Mr Skripal’s door handle in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Mr Bailey, the police officer who was investigating the case also became seriously ill.

Mr Sergeev is being charged with seven offences, including three of attempted murder as well as conspiracy to murder Sergei Skripal, causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Yulia Skripal and Mr Bailey, and possession and use of a chemical weapon.
