'Shut up Fergie!' Duchess warned she could 'make fool of herself' with risky new project

Sarah Ferguson promotes her first historical romance novel

Fergie announced she had signed a book deal with British publisher Mills & Boon and will release historical novel Her Heart For a Compass later this summer. The 61-year-old admitted she “drew on many parallels from my life” after researching her family history. But royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams was sceptical over the new project as he warned the Duchess has previously “made a fool of herself” in the past.

He wrote on Twitter: “This could be absolutely dreadful. She has made a fool of herself so often.

“Perhaps it will win a Bad Sex Award.

“If only she would shut up!”

In a promotional video for the book, Sarah dressed in period costume as she announced the novel was due to be published in August.

The duchess said: “Follow your heart. But do you dare? I’m going to take you back with the wonderful Mills & Boon to 1870 to the Lady Margaret.

“Lady Margaret, she loves to ride side-saddle. She’s strong. She’s rebellious. She’s courageous.

“We are going to publish in August 2021 and I’m so excited.”

Set in Victorian London, the book follows “free-spirit” Lady Margaret who “flees the confines of polite society, and an arranged marriage.”

The description on Amazon said: “But Lady Margaret’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, as close friends with Queen Victoria, must face the public scrutiny of their daughter’s impulsive nature, and Margaret is banished from polite society.

“Finding strength amongst equally free-spirited companions, including Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Louise, Margaret resolves to follow her heart.

“On a journey of self-discovery that will take her to Ireland, America, and then back to Britain, Lady Margaret must follow her internal compass and search for her place, and her own identity, in a changing society.”

Sarah become a member of the Royal Family in 1986 when she married Prince Andrew but they divorced ten years later.

Sarah admitted to Harper’s Bazaar in 2011 she didn’t want a divorce, but had to because of “circumstance.”

Before the announcement, she was photographed with her toes in the mouth of Texan financial advisor John Bryan, while still married.

Sarah also caused a stir last year after claiming coronavirus was a punishment from mother nature, shortly before Prince Charles caught the disease.

She tweeted at the time: “Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms, like the spoilt children we are.

“She gave us time and she gave us warnings. She was so patient with us.

“She gave us fire and floods, she tried to warn us but in the end she took back control.”

Sarah has spent most of the pandemic holed up in the Royal Lodge, where she still lives with Andrew.

She passed the time by launching Youtube series Storytime with Fergie and Friends’, which has already gained more than 7,000 subscribers since launching in May.
