It’s set up to be the most epic conclusion to an F1 seasons in years – but the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is unlikely to be shown free-to-air in the UK. After an intense battle between the two, Max Verstappen currently leads Lewis Hamilton by eight points in the drivers’ standings with just two Grand Prix’s remaining.
Sky hold exclusive rights to show F1 live in the UK, but it doesn’t seem they will be giving in to demand this time around.
Instead, the coverage is expected to follow the same format, with Channel 4 showing their usual delayed qualifying and race highlights.
“The race is unlikely to be free to air on December 12. Highlights will be available on Channel 4 as always,” a Sky spokesperson told Motorsport Broadcasting.
Current Channel 4 schedules show that highlights of qualifying will air at 6:55pm on Saturday, December 11, with race highlights airing the next day at 5:30pm.
