Piers then criticised the event as a whole, branding it “even more irrelevant than ever” amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
It comes after Piers faced backlash over his takedown of Osaka on Twitter.
The presenter was criticised after he called Osaka an “arrogant spoiled brat” and branded her “world sport’s most petulant little madam” because she decided against attending press conferences during the French Open due to her mental health.
Osaka withdrew from the French Open as she opened up on her struggles with depression.
Explaining her decision in an Instagram post, the tennis champion said it was “the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being”.
She continued: “I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept that my timing was not ideal and my message could have been clearer.
“More importantly I would never trivialise mental health or use the term lightly.”
