Tales of the Walking Dead will expand The Walking Dead universe even further and fans of the AMC show were thrilled at the announcement. News of the new series comes amid season 11 of the original series, which is currently on hiatus. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what to expect from Tales of the Walking Dead.
When is Tales of the Walking Dead out?
Tales of the Walking Dead is a new anthology series within the same universe as the original The Walking Dead.
The series will be made up of hour-long standalone episodes, focussing on characters new and old.
A total of six episodes has been given the green light and production will begin in early 2022.
Although no release date has been given, the series is expected to arrive in the summer of 2022, on AMC and AMC+.
The episodes are being created by The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead writer, Channing Powell.

Who is in the cast of Tales of the Walking Dead?
Although an official cast list has not yet been announced, fans can expect to see both familiar faces and new characters.
Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) are already getting their own spin-off show.
With this in mind, they are unlikely to feature in the anthology series.
Fan-favourite Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) will also be starring in his own film franchise so he is unlikely to return.
More information on the new cast will come to light once the series has started filming.
What is Tales of the Walking Dead about?
Each episode will tell a standalone story about a particular character from The Walking Dead universe.
With this in mind, the plots will be kept fairly short and simple as they will not overlap across the series.
Fans have said they are keen for a series to explore the origins of the virus and what life was like before the apocalypse.
On Facebook, Samantha Nicole Alexander said: “I desperately want a spin-off that gives us the entire back story of the virus.
“I’m a total nerd when it comes to stuff like that. That’s why I was super excited when Fear TWD came out, cause I thought we would get to know more stuff like that, but I stopped watching after the second season.”
The second half of season 11 of the mother series will resume in February 2022.
While most fans will miss the series, others feel it is the right time to say goodbye to the survivors.
Speaking of the new show, Christoph N. Kellerbach said on Facebook: “The anthology concept sounds nice, because WALKING DEADs Problem is that the series‘ of the franchise have a terrible pacing.
“When they are now forced to tell a more condensed, focused story, it might be a nice watch.” [Sic]
Christopher Searle added: “This has the potential to be good, but they have to be risky with it, at least there won’t be filler episodes.”
Tales of the Walking Dead will air on AMC in 2022.
