The Handmaid’s Tale season 5: Janine star details 'difficult' time on set

For some, being locked in the house during the pandemic brought a sense of security and helped them structure their lives.

However for others, including Madeline, this wasn’t the case: “I jokingly say, that I was like Rapunzel locked away in a tower and that I experienced ego death but I also completely mean both of those things sincerely, it was a lot.”

Despite this, she was able to channel those emotions into the show while filming: “By taking that, bringing that isolation and fear, the yearning for freedom I brought into Janine inevitably this season.”

In the last season, Janine experienced a lot of those emotions, especially while she was on the run with June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss).
