UK weather forecast: Britain facing TWO WEEKS of snow as big freeze to rip through nation

Swathes of the UK were hit by snow today as Storm Arwen brought gusts of almost 100mph as a rare red wind warning for parts of north-east England expired early on Saturday. And the latest weather maps show the country is forecast more snow in the coming weeks.

A map from WX Charts shows snow expected across much of the nation on Sunday as the weekend of freezing conditions continue.

The heaviest snow is set to affect parts of northern England and Scotland.

And the wintery weather does not appear to be easing up as a map shows further snow next Friday affecting much of the east of Scotland and England, as well as a chunk of Northern Ireland.

Britons can brace for weeks of cold conditions as more snow is currently also forecast for December 13.

A map by WX Charts shows a swathe of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are set to see snowfall.

The snow will be heaviest in parts of Scotland, while the South East and South West will not be affected.

The weather maps come as Britons have today been battered by snow across some regions in England and Scotland.

Three people have been killed as Storm Arwen brought gusts of almost 100mph.

“Elsewhere, exposed sites in Scotland and Northern Ireland also surpassed 90mph, with 70-80mph seen more widely in the north of the UK, though parts of southern England and Wales also felt the effects of the storm.

“This has been coupled with a few inches of snow which has fallen in some areas.

“In the higher ground areas of Scotland we expected to see up to 15cm falling but the strong winds meant the snow blew around and created a blizzard in some parts.”

Police Scotland said a 35-year-old man died when his pick-up truck was struck by a falling tree on the B977 Dyce to Hatton of Fintray Road in Aberdeenshire at about 5.45pm on Friday.

Cumbria Police said a man from Lancaster died in Ambleside after a tree fell on him just before 11pm.

In Northern Ireland, a man was killed when his car was hit by a falling tree in County Antrim.

Social media footage showed lorries and cars stuck on snowy roads, with ploughs being used in a number of areas.
