Following a summer of staycation, many Britons may have chosen to head overseas for half term. However, reports suggest a UK holiday is still the most popular choice. So where should Britons go?
One Yorkshire village has been named one of the best staycation places to visit by Holiday rentals marketplace HomeToGo.
Located in the North York Moors National Park, Thornton le Dale is a chocolate box village which has won awards for being Britain’s Prettiest Village.
Thatched cottages, beautiful gardens and a bubbling beck running through the village make Thornton le Dale a picture-perfect location from which to explore North Yorkshire.
The main tiny green at the centre of the village has an old market cross and stocks.

There’s a woodland footpath and a nature trail in the village.
Following the trail, Britons will find storyboards, tree carvings, a bug hotel and hedgehogs, birds and bats boxes.
Thornton le Dale was already a popular tourist attraction, but the Yesterday Channel’s series Bangers and Cash put it on the map for classic car lovers.
The village is home to the Matthewsons’s Motor Museum.
On Tripadvisor, Linda F said: “A must for any vintage car lover.”
Donna R said: “You must wonder around the village, it was so pretty.”
While the village is one of the prettiest sights in the North York Moors, one of the best things about Thornton le Dale is its location.
The North York Moors Natural Park is the best National Park in Europe, according to Tripadvisor.
The village is also ideally located near Dalby Forest.
A highlight of the forest is the Bridestones walk, which takes holidaymakers to an impressive outcrop of sandstone.
On Tripadvisor, Jenny C said: “I just love this place! There is so much to do. We have been twice now and both times have been completely different!”
The hamlet of Ellerburn has an ancient Saxon church and is easily accessible from Thornton le Dale.
Thornton le Dale puts on ghostly walks for Halloween, where visitors can go through Dalby Forest for a scare or two.
