Shadow Lord Chancellor David Lammy appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain to discuss Keir Starmer with Susanna Reid and Alastair Campbell. Susanna detailed a lack of trust in Starmer due to backtracking of promises, something for which she said the Prime Minister has often been deemed a liar for. When Lammy went on to say Johnson was indeed a liar, Reid fumed at the MP, asking what makes it okay for him to call Johnson a liar and not Starmer.
“Can we trust Sir Keir Starmer?” The host began, adding: “We had a debate earlier about when Boris Johnson reneges on things that he has promised he’s called a liar.
“When Sir Keir Starmer reneges on things that he’s promised that’s simply being flexible.
“That’s a political interpretation isn’t it? For instance Keir Stamer does not back an increase in the minimum wage to £15 an hour despite the fact that when he was campaigning two years ago for workers of McDonald’s he said they should earn £15 an hour.
“In his leadership manifesto when he got elected to the party he made a commitment to common ownership that he doesn’t back nationalising the energy industry.”
