'Wonderful' spot named best beach destination in Europe – and it's not in Spain


The Atlantic hotspot is a tourist favourite and it’s little surprise to see it win ‘Best Beach Destination in Europe’ at the World Travel Awards. But which European beach area was voted best for British tourists?

The region’s tourism board has recently announced its plans to put more focus on off season tourism to the Algarve.

As a world class golfing destination, the Algarve has plenty to offer enthusiasts all year-round at one of its many courses.

British tourists can explore whitewashed fishing villages overlooking hidden beach coves with crystal waters.

The beaches south of the city of Lagos are some of the region’s most stunning areas and are overlooked by red limestone cliffs.

Praia de Falésia is one of the longest beaches in Portugal at almost seven kilometres with golden sands.

Surfers have plenty of waves to catch on the Algarve and will be spoilt for choice with the region’s many surfing beaches.

Intrepid explorers can discover the Algarve’s incredible rock formations which offer some great selfie opportunities.

Families should take a dolphin watching tour to catch a glimpse of the beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.
