Zlatan Ibrahimovic asks Tyson Fury 'to do him favour' in Deontay Wilder trilogy showdown

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Tyson Fury that he wants the Gypsy King to put on a show when he tunes into tonight’s heavyweight world title defence against Deontay Wilder. The Bronze Bomber is out for revenge after being bashed from pillar to post last time out when the pair shared the ring in February 2020.

Fury had hoped to move on to a historic undisputed all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua in the Middle East before an arbitrator ruled that he must honour Wilder’s rematch clause that had previously expired.

The Gypsy King was unwilling to shed out any money on a step-aside fee, with Wilder demanding up to £17million to move out of the way.

Tonight in Sin City, the two heavyweight titans will go to war once more in what is likely to be the final chapter of their unique rivalry.

Drake and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya are among the global stars to have sent Fury their well wishes ahead of the bout and now former Manchester United striker Ibrahimovic has posted a special mention for his friend, the Gypsy King.

He said in a video: “Tyson Fury my friend, what’s up? I hope you are well, I hope the camp went well and I hope your family is well.

“I hope everything is like it should be. I want to wish you big luck, even if you don’t need it.

“You are on that level, keep making history. People admire you, you’re an inspiration to everybody, so keep being yourself, that is most important.”

Ibrahimovic then ordered Fury to put on a show, confirming he will be tuning into the action: “Also, do me a favour, go out there and dance in the ring and do what you have to do.

“Take the belt home and keep going, keep striving, keep pushing.

“I wish you all the best, take care and I’ll be watching, so make me enjoy. Take care.”

Fury, who is a big Manchester United supporter, is a big fan of Ibrahimovic from his time at Old Trafford and responded to the striker: “Lions eat first @Ibra_official, thank you Zlatan!”

The Swedish veteran is an avid watcher of boxing and he has attended a number of huge fights over the years.

Back in 2017, he shared a moment with Anthony Joshua in his dressing room before AJ’s 10th-round stoppage of Carlos Takam in Cardiff.

AJ told Sky Sports on the night: “Zlatan loves his boxing and his mindset is phenomenal but he picked me up on something I said after my fight with Wladimir Klitschko earlier in the year.

“He pointed out that I’d said ‘I’m not perfect, but I’m trying’. Then he said ‘No, no no. What you must is say is ‘I am perfect and I’m not trying!'”

Ibrahimovic couldn’t help but play up to his character when asked for his thoughts on Joshua’s performance as he expressed his admiration for AJ, something that is unlikely to please his rival Fury.

“He is not as good at boxing as I am at football… but he’s getting there,” Ibrahimovic said.

“He’s a knockout artist and his personality is good because he is perfect and he is not trying.

“There are positive vibes all around him, he has good energy and expresses himself very well. That’s why everyone loves him. It’s why he’s the people champion.”
